It’s important to consistently care for your tile floors and have the grout cleaned a number of times a year. Grout is porous and can collect dirt, mold, and bacteria. It’s important to clean grout well every so often to avoid staining and continuous dirt build-up.

It’s hard to clean grout with just a vacuum or mop; these methods will not remove the dirt from the pores of the grout, and over time the dirt will likely increase in the grout lines. Gentle but thorough cleaning of your grout should be done regularly throughout the year.

Easiest Way to Clean Grout on Tile Floors

The easiest way to clean grout is by scrubbing with a cleaning solution and hot water. The grout can be scrubbed by hand, which can take a long time to see results, or you can use a high-powered floor scrubber.

There are a variety of solutions to clean your tile such as baking soda or vinegar with water, OxiClean, or many other spray cleaners designed to be safe for your grout. If the grout lines are a light color, bleach or hydrogen peroxide solutions can be a good product to clean and sanitize the tile grout. Something that will help loosen the dirt and grime is recommended.

It’s important to be careful with the solutions you choose with traditional grout made from cement-type products. Epoxy grouts are easier to keep clean over time and can require less scrubbing maintenance.

Keeping Grout and Tile Clean

If you have tiled areas that see a lot of foot traffic, you can consider adding rubber-backed mats and rugs to your workplace floors. They can be placed in locations like the front entryways, in front of refrigerators and sinks, and other places that see a lot of coming and going, moisture, or dirt particles building up. This can go a long way to prevent these areas from dirt accumulation, and require less scrubbing and cleaning over the year.

Sealing your grout lines will also help them last longer and look better over time. Color choices are an option and durable sealers can help prevent staining over time.
